Dietitian - Renal (Days)
Registered Dietitians play a critical role in building relationships with patients and their families, utilizing dietary education and planning to influence patients' quality of life. Key responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, developing specific nutritional plans, and providing ongoing nutritional support. Candidates must be registered with the Commission of Dietetic Registration and possess current licensure in the relevant state or have at least one year of clinical nutrition experience.
Experience with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients is preferred. Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Adheres to all company policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, OSHA, and other applicable agency regulations.
2. Handles patient information with discretion and sensitivity while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
3. Utilizes professional communication to foster positive public relations with patients, their families, physicians, co-workers, outside agencies, and service providers.
4. Ensures patients receive appropriate care regarding renal diet and medications from Long Term Care Facilities.
5. Conducts comprehensive nutritional assessments for dialysis patients, provides ongoing instruction and counseling, monitors diet adherence, offers educational materials, and reviews monthly lab results.
6. Assists in obtaining Intradialytic Parenteral Nutrition (IDPN), nutritional resources, and protocols.
7. Collaborates as part of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) in completing Comprehensive Assessments and Plans of Care, participating in care plan meetings, and ensuring coordination with other service providers as necessary.
8. Participates in the Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) team in the facility’s Continuous Quality Improvement process, monitoring clinical indicators, attending meetings, and assisting with action plans according to QAPI Program requirements.
9. Engages in national and state programs focused on renal nutritional services and stays informed about relevant changes.
10. Reviews monthly lab results for each patient and recommends changes in medications and diet orders in collaboration with the attending physician and/or protocols, per state-specific regulations. Assists with managing medications according to established protocols (e.g., Vitamin D analogs, calcimimetics, phosphorus binders) and helps secure nutritional supplements.
11. Refers patients to nutritional resources such as financial assistance, community resources, or in-home support, and facilitates access to nutritional supplements as needed.
12. Performs job duties in compliance with state and licensing requirements.
13. Assists with additional projects and assignments as requested by Clinic Leadership.
**Requirements:**
- Registered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on the Commission of Dietetics Registry
– Required. - Current state licensure (if required by the state), meeting all applicable state/licensing requirements
– Required. - Minimum of one year of professional work experience in clinical nutrition as a registered dietitian (after becoming a Registered Dietitian)
– Required. - Membership in the American Dietetic Association
– Strongly Preferred. - Previous experience in nutrition related to ESRD patients
– Preferred. - Responsible for maintaining registration and continuing education hours as specified by the American Dietetic Association. - Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
