Job Summary:
The Nurse Manager - OR is responsible for managing 24-hour patient care services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care within a safe and patient-focused environment. This role oversees clinical standards, resource budgeting, and staff development while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee operations of 24-hour departments, potentially across multiple locations, ensuring high-quality patient care and compliance with Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
- Set, implement, and maintain patient care and service standards to meet internal and client expectations.
- Design and assess processes to enhance patient care across the continuum.
- Develop and monitor budgets, optimize human and material resources, manage financial performance, and implement strategies to reduce costs and improve care quality.
- Determine and manage the appropriate staff mix, including recruitment, hiring, training, and competency maintenance.
- Ensure ongoing staff development and manage human resources, safety, and risk issues.
- Develop and oversee departmental policies, fiscal management, and quality improvement activities.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of clinical nursing experience in a relevant specialty area, plus 4 years of management, supervisory, or leadership experience.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, or a direct-entry Master’s in Nursing (MSN).
- License/Certification:
- California Registered Nurse License required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Additional Requirements: Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission, and federal, state, and local regulations, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work within a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have):
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred.
- Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
- Two years of management experience, Magnet/shared governance experience, or experience in a bargaining environment preferred.
- Five years of recent experience managing or supervising a Main OR within the last 7 years.
