**Job Specific Details and Tasks:**

The quality of service provided by the Emergency Services Physician shall meet or exceed reasonable community standards of professional practice applicable to the healthcare sector, as determined by the governing authority for military medical professionals in the relevant discipline.
The physician shall possess the ability and experience to perform the full range of emergency medical services, which includes the accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries.

The physician must competently execute medical procedures that encompass, but are not limited to, the following:
- Incision and drainage
- Nail trephination
- Application of slings or swathes for injuries
- Bandaging - Reduction of dislocations and fractures, as appropriate
- Stabilization and evaluation of cervical spine injuries, as warranted
- Lumbar puncture
- Pericardiocentesis
- Removal of foreign bodies, as necessary
- Delivery of newborns and performance of emergency vaginal deliveries
- Venous punctures for laboratory studies, including interpretation of results
- Drawing arterial blood gases for evaluation, with corresponding interpretation
- Suturing or stapling of simple and multilayered lacerations
- Removal of sutures and surgical staples
- Tubal thoracostomy
- Open thoracotomy
- Secure and maintain an adequate airway, utilizing methods such as:
- Oral airways
- Oral tracheal intubation
- Nasal/tracheal intubation
- Crico-thyrotomy (needle and surgical)
- Splinting and stabilization of traumatic injuries to extremities
- Administration of intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous injections
- Prescription and administration of medications as appropriate
- Securing and maintaining adequate intravenous access through both peripheral and central routes
- Diagnostic peritoneal lavage (DPL)
- Bladder catheterization
- Placement of NG/OG tubes
- Administration of local anesthesia
- Application of restraints
- Procedural sedation
- Selected screening ultrasound examinations

The physician shall also be prepared to perform tasks that include, but are not limited to, the following: - Coordination with transfer and accepting facilities and other Emergency Departments
- Appropriately requesting consultations
- Completing all required documentation
- Obtaining comprehensive histories, physical assessments, and treatment plans in a timely manner for each patient
- Utilizing paraprofessional staff as necessary, including non-physician providers
- Responding to cardiopulmonary arrests as appropriate
- Interpreting electrocardiograms and laboratory tests
- Conducting preliminary interpretations of imaging studies, including CAT scans
- Directing medical care through radio communication with ambulance services
- Providing discharge instructions

Responsibilities further include the examination of patients, rendering medical assessments of their conditions, and initiating appropriate actions. The physician is expected to provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency patients, ensuring definitive medical care to alleviate emergency conditions, thus enabling patients to seek follow-up care as outpatients, when necessary.
The responsibility for following up on abnormal laboratory and/or imaging study reports resides with the ordering physician, who will review each report per established MTF procedures.
The physician shall respond to "Code Blue" medical emergency alerts, providing resuscitation treatment until specialized care arrives. Should resuscitation efforts prove unsuccessful, the physician shall pronounce the patient deceased and notify the next-of-kin, if present. While the completion of the death certificate primarily falls to the patient's primary physician, the Emergency Services physician may finalize this document if all pertinent information is available. In addition, the physician shall reassure and treat non-acute conditions in accordance with established medical triage priorities.
The physician is responsible for preparing appropriate patient profile updates and maintaining documentation of all treatments provided in accordance with MTF directives.
The physician will also dispatch and provide medical control for ambulances in line with MTF procedures, and accompany emergency services technicians on ambulance runs as indicated by the nature of the emergency, adhering to MTF leadership guidance and procedures. Emergency room procedures shall be performed as compatible with the operational capacity, supplies, and equipment of the MTF. As workload permits during scheduled duty, the physician is expected to attend monthly staff meetings of the Emergency Service as well as any additional committee meetings as required by the individual MTF, which may include sessions scheduled outside of assigned duty shifts.

**Minimum Qualifications:
** *Education:* The physician shall have successfully completed an approved Emergency Medicine (EM) residency accredited by the USAF Surgeon General and shall be board eligible or certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.

*Experience:* Physicians must fulfill the experience, training, and certification requirements pertinent to the appropriate level of emergency medical staff physician in accordance with relevant regulations.

*Licensure:* The physician shall maintain a current, unrestricted Medical License in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
