Manager/Supervisor

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Practice:

  • Act as an expert resource and role model for the staff.
  • Create, modify, and evaluate policies and procedures based on clinical practice guidelines.
  • Ensure care delivery in the unit meets these guidelines through competency-based assessment of all staff at the time of hire and ongoing.
  • Use quality outcomes to ensure safe procedural care of patients in the perioperative/interventional arena.
  • Support ongoing education and professional growth of self and staff.
  • Stay current with practice changes and communicate to staff.

2. Personnel Management:

  • Interview, recruit, and hire RN staff.
  • Conduct performance appraisals.
  • Counsel employees and act on disciplinary problems.
  • Ensure staff has knowledge and skills to provide appropriate, safe care to patients through education, coaching, or experience.
  • Develop and maintain staffing patterns for the unit.
  • Coordinate and chair staff meetings and UBT.

3. Leadership:

  • Facilitate interdepartmental relationships to support the mission, vision, and goals of the department and organization.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking.
  • Be collaborative, even when faced with conflict and difficult conversations.
  • Facilitate a culture of creative thinking, problem-solving, and act as a change agent to challenge the status quo.
  • Meet deadlines.
  • Be self-reflective.
  • Escalate issues to appropriate parties.
  • Create and maintain collaborative relationships with Permanente providers and leaders in the organization.
  • Develop the next generation of leaders.

4. Quality Assurance/Improvement:

  • Participate in data gathering and analysis.
  • Articulate organization and department performance improvement programs and goals.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory bodies and professional standards.
  • Monitor quality and safety of units.
  • Support the quality plan and articulate to staff.
  • Develop department plans with quality focus that respond to changing healthcare delivery.
  • Investigate any quality concerns in the department, document results, and report concerns or findings to appropriate entities within the organization.

5. Financial Management:

  • Work with the business manager or director to develop a budget that takes into account labor and cost of goods using historical and projected estimates.
  • Manage both labor and inventory and supplies in a cost-effective manner and within budget.
  • Define budget variances and course correct to them.
  • Define capital equipment needs of the department, including surgeon and anesthesia requests.
  • Prioritize needs for the department when capital is limited.
  • Educate staff on department budgetary goals and promote cost-effectiveness in the department.

6. Labor Management:

  • Create a cooperative, efficient work environment as a result of consistent interpretation and application of contractual guidelines.

7. Additional Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must Have Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum five (5) years of RN clinical experience, with at least two (2) years in Perioperative Services.
  • Minimum two (2) years of leadership role in the healthcare field.
  • Education: BSN or health-related bachelor's degree or currently enrolled in a BSN or health-related bachelor's degree program with a completed date defined.
  • License, Certification, Registration: Registered Nurse License (Oregon). Basic Life Support within 1 month of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of Critical Care experience (MPU or SPA/PACU only).
  • Minimum four (4) years of previous management experience in a similar role or in an acute care setting.
  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated knowledge in the area of clinical experience.
  • Certification in specialization (CNOR, CPAN, etc.).
  • Familiarity with various regulations and standards such as the Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, Labor Law, etc.
  • Financial/economic principles.
  • Communication skills.
  • Master's degree preferred.
