**About the Position**

The Tax Director plays a crucial role in ensuring that the organization fulfills its tax obligations and adheres to regulatory requirements. This individual is essential for safeguarding the organization's legal and financial integrity by ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while promoting ethical and responsible operational practices. The role is particularly significant given the complexities associated with tax code applications within the organization.

**Key Responsibilities**
The responsibilities of the Tax Director encompass, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare quarterly, annual, and income tax projections, accruals, and analyses; collaborate with business leaders, relevant stakeholders, and external tax advisors regarding estimated payments.
- Develop and implement a long-term tax strategy in partnership with executive leadership.
- Provide guidance on the tax implications of business transactions, acquisitions, and financial strategies.
- Facilitate and coordinate with external tax advisors to prepare, review, and submit all required company, trust, and other income tax filings in a timely manner.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and regulatory agencies.
- Engage in proactive coordination with key stakeholders and thought partners concerning regular tax planning discussions.
- In collaboration with external tax advisors, monitor legislative and regulatory developments in tax law, communicate the impact of these changes to management, and develop strategies to leverage alterations in tax legislation.
- Conduct proactive reviews of property tax assessments aimed at identifying cost reductions and overall management improvements.
- Maintain effective control procedures governing all aspects of the tax process.
- Mentor and develop members of the internal tax team, fostering an environment of knowledge-sharing and professional advancement.
- Execute other duties as necessary.

**Required Qualifications**
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of four years of experience in tax compliance, with relevant experience in a manufacturing setting. - Background in public accounting within the tax service sector.
- Strong foundational knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of tax codes and regulations, compliance procedures, and processes.
- Proficient experience with a range of tax operations and the capacity to initiate process improvements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and fixed asset accounting systems.
- Possession of analytical and decision-making skills, strong interpersonal abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to intellectual curiosity.
- Capability to successfully pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test, pre-employment physical, and background check.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- A CPA license.
- Experience within the forest products sector.
- A valid driver’s license.
