This is a job description for the position of Cytotechnologist. The Cytotechnologist is a clinical laboratory practitioner who performs cytological procedures under the medical direction of the pathologist and the administrative direction of the Technical Manager or site Manager. The procedures require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, as determined by the department, and are performed pursuant to established and approved protocols of the NYS Department of Health. The Cytotechnologist may have frequent contact with patients, hospital employees, physicians, pathologists, nursing personnel, visitors, laboratory personnel, vendors, regulatory or accrediting agencies, and students. Other duties may be assigned as well, but the main responsibility is performing high complexity testing. The job requires a certain level of physical fitness. The employee must be able to move about from work station to station, as well as perform duties associated with the use of a computer and laboratory instruments. The employee must also have the ability to grasp small objects and perform tasks associated with eye-hand coordination, distinguish details of objects less than a few feet away, and determine and detect differences between size, color, numbers, shades, and brightness, as well as differentiate sounds. Frequently the employee must lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds. The employee must have the ability to make independent decisions and have proven interpersonal and communication skills. They must also be able to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations, and resolve routine problems without supervision.

1st Shift (Client can be flexible with the hours, current staff

starts anywhere from 05:00AM - 07:00AM) FULL-TIME

 This job requires the following qualifications and certifications:
- A valid New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) license is mandatory.
- A Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology or a related area is necessary.
- A valid New York State Department of Education license or a limited permit is required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is also required.
- The candidate should possess a valid New York state license.
