Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), the individual will assume responsibility for the oversight and supervision of the pharmacy department.

This role encompasses the execution of duties as delineated by the department’s scope of service, ensuring that the unique needs of clients are addressed effectively.

The incumbent will plan, organize, and direct departmental activities.

This includes the development of goals and objectives, as well as the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures to guide departmental operations.

In this capacity, the individual will select, train, orient, and assign departmental staff in collaboration with management personnel.

They will develop standards of performance and will be responsible for monitoring and supervising staff members, evaluating their performance, and initiating or recommending personnel actions such as salary adjustments, promotions, and disciplinary measures. The role also requires the development of policies and procedures pertinent to the pharmacy department, covering the distribution and administration of medications throughout the hospital.

Additionally, the individual will maintain and update the hospital formulary, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and safe pharmacy services to inpatients, outpatients, and staff. The candidate will be tasked with developing and proposing the operating budget for the department while ensuring compliance with allocated funds. Recommendations for capital expenditures will also be part of the responsibilities.

Moreover, the individual will oversee the acquisition and procurement of quality medications for hospital use through the inventory control clerk. The incumbent will develop and maintain quality assurance records and methodologies within the department. They will also oversee the maintenance of departmental records, reports, and patient records/profiles, as well as collect necessary statistical data. Daily assignments and work schedules for all pharmacists will be coordinated by this individual. Participation in administrative staff meetings and other assigned meetings is required, along with the establishment and maintenance of effective communication both within the department and with other hospital departments. Building relationships with professional organizations and affiliates is also an essential aspect of this role. The individual will review and approve weekly payroll submissions.

It is critical to maintain department facilities and equipment in conditions conducive to the efficient operation, health, comfort, and safety of both staff and patients. Supervision will extend to all inpatient areas, including unit dose programs, decentralized services, IV admixture programs, pharmacists, and support personnel, providing clinical leadership and direct patient service programs. Coordination of medication deliveries will be undertaken in conjunction with the pharmacy operations manager, ensuring an organized workflow for all medication dispensing activities within the hospital and timely delivery of medications.

**Requirements:**

A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, along with either a Master of Science or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), is required.

The candidate must be licensed as a Pharmacist in Michigan.

A minimum of three to five years of supervisory or administrative experience is also required. Strong knowledge of the 340B Program is essential and should be explicitly indicated in the candidate's resume when applicable.

Candidates must possess hospital pharmacy experience.

The candidate should demonstrate strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills, enabling effective communication with all members of the healthcare team. The ability to work a flexible schedule and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously is necessary.

A strong customer service orientation is expected, alongside the ability to foster positive relationships with staff members.

The incumbent should effectively represent the practice both internally and externally within the organization, maintaining an exemplary attendance record.

Proficiency in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and EMR (EPIC), is required.
